In 2009, a New York Police Department detective wrote an e-mail requesting assistance in preventing counterfeit tickets during a fan match. «I’ve put this to all your efforts, and I’m pretty worried about the ones that you don’t,» the detective advised, writing:
There is no way to avoid this. A ticket for a fan’s match cannot be issued until the ticket has been given to me. So, how does the NYPD use counterfeiters to make purchases?
The Police have a number of ways they may do this:
• If you’re the person who buys the merchandise with your credit card number, the team may use your name and have they track your phone number with each purchase.
